I created budgets in EP Budgeting 6.x and Classic Movie Magic. Can I open previous budgets in the new Movie Magic?

Yes, you can! Any budget created in EP Budgeting (EPB) 6.x or Classic Movie Magic Budgeting can be opened in Movie Magic Budgeting (MMB) 7. Any budgets created in MMB 7 must be exported to either EPB 6.x or Classic Movie Magic Budgeting to be opened in those earlier programs. If you have used any of the new features to create your MMB 7 budget, they will not be operational in earlier versions of budgeting. All calculations based on a new feature, such as Applied Credit, will be exported as a flat number.

I’m working in EP Budgeting and my fringes appear overstated. What might be wrong?

Please go to the Set Up table to see if you entered appropriate cutoffs; for example, for some fringes you have a dollar cutoff. Once this cutoff has been reached after fringe application, the fringe will no longer be taken. Also, check in Details to see if you have set up fringe ranges for your rows; you will place lines of Details that belong to the same employee together in a range so that cutoffs are adhered to properly.

Is Movie Magic compatible with macOS Sierra?

Yes. Please check to make sure you are on Movie Magic Scheduling Version 6.1.0402 or Movie Magic Budgeting Version 7.6.2214. Registered users of the current versions may download the macOS Sierra update for free.

Download Steps

Users must download the new version of the application in order to use it in macOS Sierra.

1. Deactivate your existing license codes for MMS/MMB on your Mac.
2. Uninstall MMS/MMB from your Mac.
3. Upgrade to macOS Sierra.
4. Download and install the new MMS/MMB version.
5. Activate the new version using your existing license code.

Movie Magic Scheduling users please note – if your stripboard has multiple banners in a row, this may cause unintended page breaks in breakdown reports. There is currently no known workaround if the breakdown sheet is included in a report. We will continue to seek a resolution for this issue. Stripboard and shooting schedule reports appear to work normally.

My column(s) is cut off on my printed report in EP Budgeting. How can I correct it?

Please go into your Budget/File, go to the level where you are experiencing the issue, and adjust your columns as you would in Excel(R) by dragging them to make them smaller. The Description column at Topsheet, Accounts and Details is usually where you can make an adjustment. You may also try using a smaller font in File + Print Setup. What is the purpose of the Applied Credit feature in Movie Magic Budgeting?

It was conceived in response to users’ requests to be able to capture the net effect of a credit (perhaps a production incentive) to the Grand Total of the budget. As Contractual Charges adds a percentage or flat fee to the Grand Total, Applied Credit subtracts a percentage of a sub-grouped amount or a flat amount from the Grand Total of the budget. Applied Credit allows the budgeter to discount that credit, as well as deduct individual fringes.

Important Notice for Mac Users Upgrading to Mac OS X Lion

On July 20, 2011, Apple released Mac OS X Lion (10.7). Several changes were made in the new operating system (OS) that effect our software.

One of the major changes is the removal of Rosetta technology from the OS. As a result, legacy versions of our software such as EP Budgeting and EP Scheduling will not work on Lion. In addition, new versions of our Movie Magic products will only be compatible with Snow Leopard (10.6) and Lion (10.7).

To ensure a smooth transition, please deactivate and uninstall your Movie Magic program before upgrading to Mac OS X Lion (10.7). Once the new OS is installed, you will need to download the new installer from our website:

Movie Magic Scheduling
Movie Magic Budgeting

After you download and install the new update you can reactivate your license. Leaving your Movie Magic license active while upgrading to the new OS will cause the Movie Magic license to work improperly and you will not be able to use the software.

This update allows us to move our programs to Java 1.6, making MMS 5 and MMB 7 compatible with OS 10.6 and above.

A video walkthrough of the above steps is available on our BroadcastEP YouTube Channel.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have on our Facebook discussion board or by emailing our Movie Magic product team, and we will answer them to the best of our abilities.

If you have already upgraded to Lion and are experiencing trouble with your Movie Magic program, please contact our Service and Support team at 818.955.6300 or via this contact form.

Please check back here or on our Facebook page for news on any further developments.

If you have these type of programs installed on your computer please open these programs and set the options to allow your purchased EP software (EP Budgeting or EP Scheduling).

If you continue to have problems with this, please contact EP Service and Support. Support fees may apply, see Legacy Support.

Unable to Copy + Paste Between Levels

You will be unable to copy between budgets from one Level to another Level in EP Budgeting (EPB). Copy + Paste from one budget to another only works at the same Level.

  • If you attempt to copy data from the Accounts Level to the Topsheet Level it will not work.

  • If you copy from the Accounts Level to the Accounts Level in a different budget it will work.

  • If you attempt to copy + paste between budgets at the same Level but between separate sessions of the program (i.e. EPB has been launched twice and the two budgets resides in a different session) it will not work.

  • The two budgets must be open in the same session for the copy + paste from one to another to work.

Workaround for Exporting from EP Scheduling to EP Budgeting

If you need to get information from EPS to EPB there is a way to do it. At the moment there is no direct export from Scheduling, but there is a way to get info into the budgeting program.

  • In EPS, please go to the Element Manager and choose the Categories that you would like to export. Choose all the Elements you want, then copy them (CRTL+C or CMD+C).

  • After you have copied the Elements, open Excel and copy (CRTL+V or CMD+V).
  • It will copy all the information on the Element; you will need to clean it up a bit as shown in the example.

  • Now copy this list from Excel and open EP Budgeting.
  • Here you will go to the 4th level and create a profile for Cast or whatever else it is that you’re importing. Then paste it first cell as in example 2.

    Example 1

    Example 2

  • From the 4th level you can copy the needed information in the Detail Levels that you desired.
