Multi-State Privacy Legislations
Indiana, Tennessee, Florida, and Montana have joined the U.S. privacy landscape, with now ten states having enacted comprehensive privacy legislation. In addition to the newly enacted laws, Texas and Oregon are also on the horizon with privacy bills in the last stages of the legislative process. In line with existing U.S. State privacy legislation, these pieces of legislation introduce requirements governing the collection, use, sale and sharing of consumer data, and establish consumer data rights. While the earliest compliance enforcement date for the new state laws identified above does not begin until January 1, 2024, organizations can assess their potential impact and should begin to prepare for these changes now.
